To Lose Weight, Eat Beans

We’re not sure if beans are actually good for your heart, but they appear to be good for your physique. HealthDayimgres reports that researchers at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto analyzed 21 studies of a food group called “pulses,”which includes beans, chickpeas, peas, and and lentils, to see how they influence weight loss. Why pulses? Because they fill us up, and make us feel full. In fact, the researchers determined that they increase out feeling fullness by 31 percent. They are also good for us. They have a low glycemic index and they are packed with fiber, minerals, vitamins and proteins. The bottom line? Yes, they were good, but not great, for weight loss. The trials reviewed involved a total of 940 adults, who ate one serving (3/4 cup) of pulses a day, and lost an average of 0.75 pounds over six weeks without making any special effort to avoid other types of foods.
