A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that it isn’t just the elderly who need to worry about becoming seriously sick from the coronavirus. While those in their 70s, 80s, and 90s have the highest likelihood of dying from the disease, nearly 40 percent of people hospitalized in the U.S. were between the ages of 20 and 54, and nearly half of the cases in intensive care units were under 65.
According to the New York Times, of nearly 2,500 people who have tested positive in the United States, 508 and were hospitalized. Of those, 121 were admitted to the intensive care unit for treatment. Stephen S. Morse, a professor of epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health
“I think everyone should be paying attention to this,” he said. “It’s not just going to be the elderly. There will be people age 20 and up. They do have to be careful, even if they think that they’re young and healthy.”
