Check Out the Soda That May Benefit Your Digestion and Only Has 3 Grams of Sugar

If you asked me the difference between Coke and Pepsi, I wouldn't be able to tell you. I have never been a soda drinker. I've tried soda, sure, but from the time I was little I didn't cared for the sugar or the fizz. One company, though, is taking sugar out and putting the good stuff in. Last Fall, OLIPOP officially brought sparking tonics to the market focused on great taste and gut health. And here's the best part: I, the opposite of a soda person, actually like the flavors! There's Strawberry Vanilla, Cinnamon Cola, and Ginger Lemon. Here's how it all works.

Cofounder David Lester told POPSUGAR that OLIPOP was in development for two years before it launched. Put simply, fiber and prebiotics - types of carbohydrates that we can't digest - found in these drinks feed the naturally-occurring probiotics in our bodies that deal with digestion. This, in turn, may make the probiotics more effective and create a more balanced microbiome (read: the living bacteria in and on the human body).

"It is OLIPOP's mission to provide a real solution to consumers that want to benefit their digestive health, drink less soda, and share an accessible health product with their friends and family," cofounder Ben Goodwin wrote in a post explaining more about this process. Each 12-ounce can of OLIPOP contains nine grams of fiber and two to three grams of sugar. In comparison, a 12-ounce can of Coke has virtually no dietary fiber and 39 grams of sugar.

OLIPOP is currently only available for purchase on the West Coast in stores including Wholefoods, Bristol Farms, and Erewhon. However, online ordering is set to become available on Aug. 10. Ahead, check out the nutritional info for each flavor as well as how they taste. When it comes to soda, dare to try something different (and better for you!).
