Things can get complicated when you get really into fitness. There are all sorts of squat variations, types of deadlifts, and difficult upper-body movements like pull-ups, but sometimes you just have to go back to the basics.

That's where Harley Pasternak, celebrity trainer and wellness expert, comes in. He's an advocate for simply moving your body every single day, whether it's walking more often or exercising a little more. That's why the walking lunge is one of his most recommended exercises.

"It's one of my absolute favorite exercises," he told POPSUGAR. You can do this exercise in your living room, on the sidewalk outside of your house, or pretty much anywhere that has a little bit of space. It works your quads, glutes, and even your core.

"We actually took a group of fitness professionals at the Propel Co:Labs Festival (on May 6 in Los Angeles), and I had them walk-lunge around the block," he said. If it works for them, it will probably work for us, too!

If you need an added layer of resistance, feel free to hold dumbbells at your side, or you can just do bodyweight walking lunges on the sidewalk as you're waiting in line for a coffee. Whatever works!
