Mirai Nagasu Made History, but the Internet Can't Stop Talking About What's on Her Leg

Oh yes she did! Mirai Nagasu had the world in complete awe when she became the first American woman to land a triple axel at the Olympics. It's an unbelievable accomplishment. When speaking about the impressive move, the 24-year-old figure skater shared that she was "so nervous" but absolutely nailed it. After viewers took a minute to pick their jaws off the floor and replay the clip multiple times, they were totally confused about what was on Mirai's leg.

No, it's not a patriotic tattoo, nor is it a bruise or anything "rebellious," as one Twitter user wondered. Under her tights, she had kinesiology tape emblazoned with "USA" on her inner thigh. The tape compresses muscles during movement and also provides "pain relief, stability, and support" for a whole slew of muscular injuries. It's often worn by athletes and even sometimes by pregnant women! Mirai wore the KT Tape Pro USA ($20), which is available in black, blue, or red.

We're sorry, y'all, no tattoo, but let's be real: she just successfully landed one of the most difficult figure skating tricks. Does she really need a tattoo to be considered a badass? Definitely not. Read on to see some of the most confused reactions to Mirai's therapeutic tape, and make sure you don't miss any of the excitement with the full figure skating schedule at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
