All the info you need to make each and every gym visit worthwhile

Well done. Joining a gym is undoubtedly a positive move when it comes to improving your health and fitness, with the range of facilities, equipment and classes available opening up your exercise regime to an almost limitless range of possibilities.

However, walking in to your new gym for the first time can be a daunting experience, because it’s a step into the unknown. Getting the most out of your membership requires more than plodding on the treadmill for five minutes then repeating the same three dumbbell exercises each and every time you visit, you need both a plan and the willingness to try new things if you’re going to get the most out of the cash you’re handing over.

Fortunately, we are here to help on both counts. We have beginner guides to gym staples like the treadmill and the weights room, and a six-week fitness plan for people getting back into fitness that introduces a range of exercises without pushing you so hard that you give up after the first week.

For those who want to be a little more adventurous, we also have a guide to pieces of gym equipment that you might not have tried before, like battle ropes and the assault bike.

Once you do get a little more experienced, it’s time to start trying out our massive range of workouts and training plans to suit everyone, whatever your level of fitness and overall goal is. We have bodyweight and free weight workouts, as well as a variety of sessions for the treadmill, exercise bike and rowing machine. It’s definitely worth checking out some workout ideas for the cardio machines, because using them gets boring very quickly if you stick to the same routine all the time.

Before you get to all of the above, however, make sure to check the three things you should do when you first join a gym – it will get you off to the perfect start with your membership and your New Year fitness goals.
