Enough With the Excuses: It Is Time to Change Your Attitude

I hear the same excuses all the time: not enough money, not enough time, too tired, too busy, and whilst these might seem like real obstacles between you and your fitness goals, they are not the problem. The problem is your attitude.

The Power of Your Attitude

A couple of years ago, I was not flexible at all. I would look at pictures of people doing the splits and would hear those defeatist words in my head, which we are so guilty of telling ourselves: "I could never do that."

And I was right. I never would have done it. Not if I hadn't practiced. Not if I hadn't trained. Not if I hadn't looked myself in the mirror and said, "It's time to change your attitude," and practiced the splits every session of every week for months. Even when I didn't want to, even when there were other things I would rather be doing. "I can't" became "I can, I will," and I did.

Why Do We Sabotage Ourselves?

We tell ourselves we can't do these things, not because we're incapable, not because we do not have the time or the money, but because we do not have faith in ourselves. We are scared of failure, we are scared of commitment. We see the dedication required to get real results and we say, "Oh, I actually have to DO something?"

In a world of instant gratification and convenience, of fast food and online shopping, we forget that some things are not next-day delivery. Some things just cannot be bought. The important things, the really special things, they take time. With the right attitude, it is during that time that you see the brilliance and beauty of it all, and you fall in love with the journey.

It Is in Your Hands

It is not easy to change your attitude and habits, I know. Why do you think so few people stick to it? The start is always difficult, but it gets easier. If you cave at the first hurdle, it is because your heart is not in it. If you really want something, you will work hard for it. You find the time, you find the money, you find the motivation.

There are far too many people in this world getting mad about their mediocre results when they are putting in mediocre effort. Do you really think that those people you look up to and admire got where they are by snoozing their alarm and missing their gym session for the third day in a row? Or by spending their time justifying to everyone around them why they can't work out again, instead of just getting on with it? No. They committed to their goal every single day, pushing themselves at every stage, and they worked until they achieved it. Was it easy? Of course not. Did they do it? Yes, because their attitude became more resilient than their excuses.

Do not live a life far below your true potential, only because the comfort of your bed was more tempting than the thrill of getting up and chasing your dreams. Do not wait until you get old to realize you cheated yourself because you never bothered to explore exactly what you and your beautiful body were capable of.

Change your attitude now, and watch how your whole world changes.
