End of Finger Pricks For Diabetes Patients Coming Soon

The end of finger pricks are in the near the near future for people who suffer from diabetes. This comes on the heels of a new medical science break through with artificial pancreas that can essentially put an end to those awful finger pricks that people with diabetes have to endure every day.

Of course, this artificial pancreas is not something that has been fully developed yet and it may take some time for it to come to the market. But it nevertheless spells a better life for people who suffer from diabetes in as little as two years, according to British news agency, Daily Mail.

There are no bounds to how happy this makes people who have to endure those tiny little finger pricks every day and test out their insulin levels. Then there is the after care if the blood sugar levels are too high or too low. That is something that artificial pancreas will take care of by itself, via an electronic device that is said to be no bigger than an iPhone.

This artificial pancreas is something that can essentially allow people who suffer from diabetes to lead normal lives and not have to worry about those awful finger pricks every day. An improvement in the quality of life is a better way of stating that though.

This revolutionary new device serves as an artificial pancreas by simply attaching a device to your clothing every day and allowing it to simply do its job by monitoring your insulin levels and adjusting accordingly when modifications need to be made. Your pancreas are responsible for the production of insulin and if someone has Type 1 diabetes, then that means they are lifelong sufferers of the disease.

So in actuality, the device which attaches to your clothes acts as a control center, or an artificial pancreas that adds insulin when needed via patches on your skin. It is something that operates automatically and those who suffer from diabetes can simply attach it to themselves then go about their day as normal. It basically means that you can end your daily finger pricks and live your life without the hassle.

Those who currently suffer from diabetes have so much maintenance they have to do in their lives that it can be all-consuming. Some people who suffer from diabetes have to inject themselves up to five times a day just to stay healthy and active. That also helps them avoid more serious health risks associated with the disease. Finger pricks have to happen many times throughout the day in order to maintain their diabetes condition as well.

Doctors Roman Hovorka and Hood Thabit both published their findings on people who suffer from various forms of diabetes and how they did with the new device.

“Type 1 diabetes carries a significant psychosocial burden and adversely impacts quality of life. In trials to date, users have been positive about how use of an artificial pancreas gives them ‘time off,’ or a ‘holiday’ from their diabetes management, since the system is managing their blood sugar effectively without the need for constant monitoring by the user,” their report said.

Preliminary research with the artificial pancreas device that will eventually put an end to finger pricks indicates that it is of great assistance to its users with diabetes and people that used it were also starting to experience an improvement in their quality of life.

The artificial pancreas device also showed that it kept up with better management of the patient’s diabetes, which could end up leading to improved health. Of course the studies were time limited, so there is no way of knowing that for sure at this time.

The end to finger pricks could come to diabetes patients as soon as early 2017 in the U.S. and 2018 in the U.K.
