Weight Loss Over Wellness: Can Simple Tweaks Like Fasting Or Vinegar Help Get Results?

Weight Loss Over Wellness: Can Simple Tweaks Like Fasting Or Vinegar Help Get Results?

Weight loss is a struggle for many Americans, and most will never overcome their weight problems. The National Institute for Health estimates that as many as 69 percent of adults over the age of 20 are considered obese or overweight. Billions of dollars are spent each year in trying to lose weight, and it leads to even higher costs because the added health problems lead to more trips to the doctor to treat weight related health issues like type 2 diabetes.

One Hour Detroit reported that dieters need to adopt wellness strategies instead of weight loss hacks to change the behaviors that cause them to overeat. To make weight loss permanent, it is necessary to develop new habits, and these habits take time.

The first step is proper education so that the dieter has the right information. They cited research from the National Institute of Health which showed that small, gradual, realistic changes resulted in successful weight loss management.

As previously reported in Inquisitr, even a small amount of weight loss can reap big results. For adults with type 2 diabetes, losing weight can actually help those who have type 2 diabetes even if they have had it for a long time. For those who have had it for over 10 years it’s possible to reverse the diabetes by losing weight.

The New York Times reported that vinegar may help with weight loss. It hinges on a clinical trial done in Japan in 2009 on obese Japanese adults. Researchers gave participants one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. Participants lost between two and four pounds over the 12 week study. Several studies also pointed to consuming vinegar before a meal that contains starch may blunt the rise in blood sugar that can occur.

While Swedish researchers reported that some who drank vinegar reported a feeling of saiety, others attributed this to the feeling nausea that vinegar may cause. Dr. David S. Ludwig, author of the book Always Hungry? said that slowing the rise in blood sugar could aid in weight loss.

“The main problem with the modern diet is that the processed carbohydrates we eat are digested and absorbed too quickly, which leads to a surge in blood sugar and insulin and then a crash a few hours later” that triggers another bout of hunger.

Time reported that fasting may also aid in weight loss. Although it’s a diet endorsed by celebrities like Jimmy Kimmel and Benedict Cumberbatch, there is actually some science behind the idea of fasting when it’s done right. Sometimes called the 5-2 Diet, it’s most commonly referred to as intermittent fasting, and it means eating the first five days normally with two days of calorie restrictions.

The benefits of going without food seem to be many as a 2010 study indicated. The obese women in the study were put on a calorie restricted diet two days a week where they ate about 600 calories comprised of vegetables, fruit and skim milk. The study lasted for six months, and the participants lost about 13 pounds, and their results were better than those who stuck to a calorie restricted diet most of the week.

For dieters who want to achieve permanent weight loss, a strong focus on changing habits and making a few diet tweaks can help dieters achieve big results. It is important to choose changes that are healthy, achieve results and can become lifestyle habits.
