It's been rough going for former UFC bantamweight champ, Ronda Rousey since her shocking loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 this past November. But give her some credit, she publicly admitted her disappointment on talk shows and even followed through on a promise to take a Marine to the Marine Corps. Ball.

Fans of Rousey believe it's just a matter of time before she dusts herself off and gets back into the Octagon to regain her title. However, according to her sister, Maria Burns Ortiz, Ronda is still reeling from her defeat. In a recent article from Vice that focuses on the attention the ex-champion has received leading up to the big fight and its aftermath, Ortiz says a part of her sister “died” at UFC 193. “I haven’t rewatched (the fight),” she said. “I haven’t read about it. I won’t. I don’t see a point in reliving the moment when a part of my loved one died, when I saw someone I cared about have her soul crushed.”

After being on the winning end of so many lopsided fights, coping with the results of a devastating KO at the hands (and foot) of Holly Holm has got to be draining. The physical wounds will heal, but the verbal jabs from fight fans and the media is what bothered Ortiz more than anything.

“I saw how horrible people can be to someone they don’t even know, which made me even more appreciative when I saw how wonderfully Ronda’s friends and family treated her,” Ortiz said. “Those are the people that matter. When some people reflect on Ronda and 2015, they will see it defined by a single event. They see it as the end. And in some ways, they’re right—but that only means we’re at a new beginning.
