Anthony Fauci Says Coronavirus Testing Needs To Double Before Country Can Reopen

Dr. Anthony Fauci says that testing for the novel coronavirus needs to double in the United States before lockdown orders can be safely lifted. The respected immunologist says he believes that this could happen within the next few weeks.

According to The Hill, the U.S. is testing 1.5 to 2 million times each week, and that needs to be increased dramatically.

“We probably should get up to twice that as we get into the next several weeks, and I think we will,” he said while speaking with the National Academy of Sciences. “Testing is an important part of what we’re doing, but it is not the only part.”

The purpose of increasing testing is so that comprehensive contact-tracing programs can be implemented.
