P90X Trainer Tony Horton Shares the Perfect Workout Formula For Weight Loss

These days, it seems like there are too many celebrity trainers out there to keep up with, each constantly giving different kinds of advice. But there are a few who have been in the fitness game for decades, creating effective workout programs and helping everyday folks and celebrities earn the bodies of their dreams - and their workout and diet advice transcends all trends and short-lived fads. Tony Horton, Beachbody Super Trainer and creator of the famous P90X programs, is without a doubt one of those trainers who has proven to be a reliable pillar in the fitness world, and we can't help but listen to everything he has to say.

POPSUGAR chatted with Tony about the kind of programs he does with his female clients, especially those who are looking to sculpt their figure and/or lose weight. The first thing he wants you to do? More strength training.

"A lot more women are understanding that [strength training] is more than the kind of training someone would do to become a better athlete," he tells us. It's a workout that perfectly complements everything else you do (cardio, yoga, rock climbing, etc.), and it "gives you the physique you want - long, lean muscles that not only look great, but are efficient when it comes to your day-to-day life."

Tony has a winning formula for any woman out there who is looking to get stronger and more toned. "Three days for cardio and three days for resistance," he puts it simply. "Having helped millions and millions of people change their physique no matter what age, it's kind of a five to six days a week equation. That's what I do with all my celebrity clients, male or female."

"It's like going to work," he continues. "Try to go to work three days a week, you lose your job. Try to eat three days a week, you'll starve yourself." Rather than only setting aside a few minutes once or twice a week to exercise, Tony encourages all of us to make fitness the number one priority, "especially with every passing month or year of your life."

Although you will lose weight and look badass, following a comprehensive workout plan is about so much more than that - you'll give yourself a healthy foundation that allows you to live a long, happy life. So get out there, move more, and lift more weights!
