Weight Loss, No Matter How Small Helps Dieters Reap Huge Benefits And Lowers Diabetes Risk

Weight loss is never an easy process, and for those who are severely obese, it brings many health risks, including an increased risk for diabetes. For those who are severely obese, a weight loss of as little as five percent can lead to huge health benefits.

The New York Times reported that a weight loss of five percent can actually improve metabolic function and reduce the risk of type two diabetes. Current treatment guidelines have often recommended losing five to 10 percent of body weight to improve health and reduce the risk of chronic disease. These previous studies didn’t distinguish between a weight loss of five percent and those who lost significantly more.

One of the most recent studies, a clinical trial, randomized 40 obese individuals who were experiencing insulin resistance with a choice of either maintaining their body weight or going on a reduced calorie diet. They were allowed to lose five, 10 or 15 percent of their body weight. For those who lost only five percent, they saw their insulin sensitivity increase significantly as well as triglyceride concentrations, blood pressure and heart rate. The markers for inflammation didn’t improve.

Dr. Samuel Klein, a professor at Washington University School of Medicine and senior author of the study that was published in the journal Cell Metabolism, said that they needed to understand the differences in the percentage of weight loss.

“Losing 5 percent is much easier than losing 10 percent, so it was important to understand what the differences might be. You get a big bang for your buck with 5 percent.”

As previously reported in Inquisitr, there are many different weight loss strategies that may help dieters lose weight and are also healthy. Stars like Kirstie Alley and Oprah Winfrey used programs like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers. Oprah also recommended meditation as a way to make it easier to lose weight and keep it off. A good healthy diet and exercise are still the usual ways to lose weight and keep it off for good. There are simple techniques like drinking water 30 minutes before meals and using different food combinations to make it easier to lose weight.

Yahoo News reported that counting calories is still one of the best ways to achieve the desired weight loss, and it works. The problem with counting calories is that it is often difficult, and it requires a lot of effort to keep track of what dieters are eating.

One of the simplest ways to count calories is to use the Katie McArdle formula. It takes the person’s weight, body fat percentage and activity level and uses it to determine how many calories a person needs in a day. This can then be used to help with cutting calories and allows dieters to figure out how long it will take to lose the weight they desire.

Another way to keep track of calories to help with weight loss is to use a fitness tracker. One of the easiest ways to do this is to use a fitness band like a Fitbit or Microsoft Band. These tools have the calorie counting built in and make it easier to track calories consumed. It will also help with tracking your calories even when you sleep.

Weight loss is never easy. There are simple tweaks that every dieter can make to lose weight and keep it off. Losing weight is a long term proposition, and it’s important to make changes that will help to maintain the weight loss and make it a lifestyle.
