A study found that ginger helps fight ovarian cancer. The study by BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine found that ginger tricks cancer cells into killing themselves. Also, the American Association for Cancer Research found that every single time in which ginger powder was used to treat cancer cells, they all died as a result of being exposed to the compound, known as apoptosis (cancer-cell suicide), according to Health Freedom Alliance. The natural dietary component gingerol has been found to shrink tumors by 56 percent. It works by blocking cancer cells from growing and spreading, and the study indicated the following, according to METRO.
“Ginger inhibits growth and modulates secretion of angiogenic factors in ovarian cancer cells….The use of dietary agents such as ginger may have potential in the treatment and prevention of ovarian cancer.”
Of course, ginger has been used by traditional medicine to treat inflammation, nausea, and for other ailments. Amazingly, there doesn’t appear to be toxicity even at high doses. And, unlike chemotherapy and radiation treatments used by cancer patients, ginger does not appear to have uncomfortable side effects, according to Health Freedom Alliance.
These findings are mammoth, as ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of death among women in the United States, according to the BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine study.
In a similar manner to the way ginger kills ovarian cancer cells, it was found to shrink tumor cells in prostate cancer. The “British Journal of Nutrition” published the results of an American study. In the study, ginger extract was found to kill human prostate cancer cells, whereas healthy prostate cells were untouched. It was also discovered that whole ginger extract shrank prostate tumors by an astounding 56 percent.
Of course, people should consult with medical professionals regarding the use of any treatments, including the use of ginger, that are appropriate in their individual cases.
Another report has a finding that may seem odd at first: that sunscreen causes skin cancer. The British Association of Dermatologists issued a report to that effect. Of course, we have usually been told throughout our lives that sunscreen prevents cancer, and that we should go out in the sun without wearing it. The sunscreen research, put together by the British Association of Dermatologists, indicates that over 72 percent of the population reports receiving a sunburn last year, despite all the anti-tanning information and the proactive reminders about sunscreen. Those 72 percent are twice as likely to develop skin cancer, a deadly form of melanoma, according to an article in the Inquisitr.
